Santa Rosa County is located in the western Florida Panhandle, and stretches between Alabama and the Gulf of Mexico. Santa Rosa county was officially founded on February 18, 1842 and now contains 1,017 square miles of land area and 157 square miles of water surface. The county seat is Milton.
Santa Rosa County is crossed east/west by Interstate 10. Gulf Breeze in Santa Rosa County was in the news in 1987 because of several claimed mass sightings of UFO's over the Gulf. Part of the old Choctawhatchee National Forest (now known as Eglin Air Force Base) is in Santa Rosa County.
