Gilchrist County is located in north central Florida. Named for Albert W. Gilchrist (Governor of Florida from 1909 to 1913) and officially founded on December 4, 1925, Gilchrist County now contains 348 square miles of land area and 7 square miles of water surface. The county seat is Trenton.
The residents of Gilchrist County are proud of the fact that there is only one stop light in the entire county. Gilchrist County is also the last county to be formed in Florida.
