In the Pineapple Park neighborhood in Tamarac

Tamarac was primarily the pet city/development of Ken Behring. He incorporated the city in 1963 and then proceeded to build a large, active adult community of maintenance-free two-bedroom homes. The city boundaries were determined primarily by the boundaries of land he owned and decided to build homes on. Certain areas of industrial development were annexed by nearby Fort Lauderdale and that tax base was lost to Tamarac. This was in keeping with the vision of Ken Behring that Tamarac would be a simple bedroom community. That has been a costly decision to the taxpayers of Tamarac in recent years.
