Plantation History Museum
Plantation is in the area of a canal once built to try to drain the Everglades, back in the early 1900's. The name comes from the Everglades Plantation Company, the company that sold some 10,000 acres to Frederick Peters in 1941 to build a town on. The settlement had a slow start but finally became an incorporated city in 1953. The population didn't really take off until the late 60's, then it boomed.
