Oakland Park City Hall

Oakland Park was originally incorporated as Floranada in 1925. However, the town's ambitions were too much for its wallet and the town was forced into bankruptcy in the aftermath of Great Hurricane of 1926. The City of Oakland Park was incorporated (on smaller acreage) in 1929. The city has grown since then by annexing adjacent neighborhoods in unincorporated Broward County.

The city has recently enacted ordinances and zoning regulations that should turn downtown into a pedestrian mixed-use area.

The population of Oakland Park is up almost 40% since 2000.
