Playground in a Lauderhill city park

As a development, Lauderhill began with sets of designs bought at Macy's Department Store. The town was incorporated as Lauderhill in June of 1959, after the developer was convinced that "Sunnydale" might be a better name for a neighborhood in Brooklyn...

Probably the most famous resident of Lauderhill was Jackie Gleason, the comedian. The Inverrary Country Club was built in 1970 and its golf course became home to the Jackie Gleason Inverrary Classic in 1972. Shortly after that Gleason built his final home on the Inverrary Country Club Golf Course.

The population of Lauderhill is up more than 20% since 2000.
