Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is located on what is essentially a long narrow barrier island separated from the mainland by the Intracoastal Waterway. The town is centered on the intersection of State Route A1A and Commercial Boulevard.
Lauderdale-by-the-Sea was first incorporated on November 30, 1927. Then for some un known reason it was re-incorporated 20 years later.
