A typical day on Hollywood Beach

Hollywood was founded in 1921, incorporated in 1925. The city embodied the vision of Joseph W. Young. He wanted to build a motion picture colony on the Florida coast so he named the place after the movie city in California. However, the Miami Hurricane of 1926 dealt the plan a severe blow.

Hollywood did recover, and boomed in the 1950's and 1960's to become the twelfth largest city in Florida. Hollywood also offers more than five miles of sandy Atlantic beach...
