A cloudy day on Cocoa Beach
Cocoa Beach was established as a town in 1925 and incorporated as a city in 1957. Population growth was slow until the space program began to pick up on nearby Merritt Island in the 1950's. As much as there is good tourism business in Cocoa Beach, a large segment of the population sees fortunes rise and fall with governmental investment in the space program.
